Some will do almost anything for their pets — including traveling with them on vacation. For pet lovers, finding pet-friendly accommodations can be a challenge especially in resort locations. However, in St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest city in America, there is a surprising amount of delightful pet-friendly bed and breakfasts — and near the beaches and historic sites.
Bayfront Marin House Bed & Breakfast
Located in the bay front historic district, the Bayfront Marin House welcomes dogs of all sizes to its bed and breakfast. For a nominal fee per night, Fido will be pampered in one of St. Augustine’s historic Victorian bed and breakfasts. Walking distance to all the historic sites, and centrally located, quaint walks await you and your furbaby in town. Guest rooms are furnished with period antiques, pillowtop beds and some feature oversized hot tubs. The Marin House offers pet-friendly rooms and cottages for dogs of various sizes. This is an ideal location on Matanzas Bay for dog walking, outdoor dining with Fido in the gazebo or patio, or relaxing in the courtyard and garden. It is required that you mention your furry friend while making your reservation, as there are only a certain number of pet-friendly suites available for booking.
St. Francis Inn Bed & Breakfast
Nestled in Saint Augustine Antiqua, the restored historic district, the St. Francis Inn Bed & Breakfast caters to both romantics and pet lovers. This property offers pet-friendly rooms, some complete with working fireplaces, balconies, two-person hot tubs, and eat-in kitchens. It welcomes up to two small pets, a cat or a dog, 50 lbs or less, for a nominal nightly fee. Check for availability and advise the innkeeper of the pet reservation request, as pets may not be allowed during certain holidays, weekends or special event periods.
The Inn at Camachee Harbor
This waterfront inn sits on the marina with peaceful water views and welcomes small pets. Sleek yachts and sailboats fill the harbor, and tranquil sunrises fill the balconies with morning light over the water. Small and well-behaved dogs and cats are welcome guests at the Inn at Camachee Harbor, with a nominal per-night pet fee. A signed pet-friendly contract is due at your time of reservation. With marina dock access, many small dogs even arrive via boat and stay at the inn for continued pampering. Call for availability, especially during peak season in October through May, as this marina inn quickly books up with its dock access.
House of Sea and Sun Bed & Breakfast
Built in 1914 by Louise Wise Lewis Frances, the niece and heir to the Henry Flagler fortune, the House of Sea and Sun is a historic oceanfront bed and breakfast situated on St. Augustine Beach. This AAA 3 Diamond Rated inn is extremely pet friendly, welcoming dogs of all sizes. Each room is decorated with antiques and some suites offer balconies and claw-foot tubs overlooking the beach. Make certain to mention your pet at your time of reservation, as there are only so many designated pet-friendly suites.

I know about the struggles of traveling with pets. It’s good to see this reference, so good, that the House of Sea & Sun may be on my agenda soon…
The House of Sea & Sun looks spectacular–especially coming from my house of fur & fuzz! 😉
I’m behind on both activity, and responding to comments and email… naturally it is because of my own new furry child. I had finally achieved peace in the house, so I added another puppy. What was I thinking? 😛
